Prevent dog chasing
How to train your dog to be anti-hunting
Do you have a dog that attacks game when it is loose? Then you should train anti-hunting. Sometimes it is not enough to just compensate the dog for the activity it needs . The hunting need is very strong in some hunting breeds . You have to train stability to control the behavior if the dog is to be loose. The dog must be able to stop on command to interrupt the hunt. Training for preventive purposes is always best, but you can also start training if the dog has already tried hunting. The disadvantage is that the dog has probably got a taste for hunting, the more times they have tried it the more fun it will be. The best thing is if the dog has never managed to try it when you start anti-hunting training. For hunting control you need exercises for: stop/call/leave it/stay/gossiping training (exercises for this can be found at the bottom). When this is trained, you need to start training with a trigger. Start training the anti-hunting exercises with a disturbance: (To practice this, I can create a fake trigger to be able to train stability from there). For example:Trigger for the dog | Behavior | Trigger created |
Visual impression (moving) | Sticks to prey that moves away | Pull the string. |
Scent impression from prey | Starting to track. | Hide or hang up a rag that smells of game/skunk. Pour out blood trail |
Sound impression | Sticks to things like rustling in the grass or other noises. | Throw a rock in the grass, fake the sound. |
Compensation for hunting needs . Search, track, rush, set, bury, carry home, find food, retrieve, lourcoursing, person tracking, mushrooms, hunting training.
